From Dan Willging, OFFBEAT Magazine, New Orleans:
Peter Novelli’s third album kicks off with a bang with guest Sonny Landreth’s signature slide guitar on “Louisiana Sunrise.” It’s a riveting road song...
As a guitarist, Novelli never overpowers, but carefully crafts his solos with ample individual expression and varying shades and textures.
from C. Michael Bailey (All About JAZZ):
Novelli possesses a guitar capability that is heads and shoulders above many of his contemporaries. He is playing is facile and intelligent across the sub-genre of his oeuvre. He peppers St. Amant Sessions with powerful instrumentals. "Boudin" features his precise and slashing guitar playing over a Meters funk motif. Drummer Brian Brignac is afforded space to display his wares among Novelli's sparks. It is jazz by any other name. "Shreveport Stomp" includes elements of the Beatles, Bill Haley and Jerry Reed in Novelli's guitar playing. He hits on his country cylinders. "I-10 Boogie" pulls out all stops as a bar-walking, trash talking, instrumental where Novelli shows what he is made of. It is "pots on...gas on high."
Jul. 3 - St Amant Sessions hits charts as tour winds down
Congrats to Sonny Landreth who guested on Peter's new CD "St Amant Sessions", his new release "Bound By The Blues" entered the Roots Music Report charts at No 1 for Louisiana artists (and also Billboard Blues chart), with Peter's CD at No 2 last week and No 36 on national Blues Chart.
Novelli's Louisiana Roots & Blues Tour IV ended in Colorado this week after covering a dozen states.
Sonny is touring with Brian Brignac on drums and Chris Senac, bass. These cats formed the rhythm section for St Amant Sessions and Peter's live gigs in New Orleans in April...Brian is also touring internationally with Peter.
from C. Michael Bailey (All About Jazz)
...Novelli pours a more solid blues-rock foundation for his music that, while retaining the NOLA shuffle, bears a sharper edge, honed with jazz and country overtones and a heapin' slab of southern-fried backbeat. Novelli opens the disc with the rave-up "Louisiana Sunrise," featuring one Sonny Landreth playing his surgically-accurate slide guitar. It is a fine performance over a sauntering twelve-bar figure that sets the stage for the rest of the recording. Landreth is like cayenne, lime and garlic, his contributions improve everything they are a part of.

Apr. 26 - Early reviews for Peter's new CD "St Amant Sessions"
...Peter is based in New Orleans and there is a strong bayou feel to this album – he even has Cajun accordionist Sammy Naquin on a couple of items and zydeco accordion star Chubby Carrier on a further two, and the comparisons that have been made with slide guitar ace Sonny Landreth are not far wide of the mark.
As if to underline this, Sonny himself guests on the opener, ‘Louisiana Sunrise’. The French influence crops up naturally enough on ‘Je Ne Sais Quoi’, and Peter can remind the listener of the great, sadly underrated Bobby Charles (Robert Guidry) on a number like the mellow(ish) ‘Bourbon Street Blue’, which follows on from the raw, churning swamp boogieblues of ‘Spirit Passing By’.
The instrumentals ‘Boudin’, the 60s inflected ‘Shreveport Stomp’ and the joyously rocking ‘I-10 Boogie’ (a crash course in Louisiana sounds) all showcase Peter’s guitar mastery. This CD was a lovely surprise and one I will return to again and again. As Clifton Chenier said, “Laissez les bon temps rouler!”
-Norman Darwen, Bluesfromthenorthwest (England)
I just received the newest release, St Amant Sessions, from Peter Novelli and it has a lot of variety. Opening with Louisiana Sunrise with a country 2 step feel, Novelli, a vocalist and guitar player is joined by slide player extraordinaire, Sonny Landreth, who lights it up. Boudin is a really cool funky jazz track with Novelli showing his own guitar chops on lead melodic guitar. Backed by Chris Senac on bass and Brian Brignac on drums this is one of my favorite tracks on the release. Je Ne Sais Quoi is straight up rocker with cajun twist. Featuring Sammy Naquin on accordion and Kevin McKendree on keys, Novelli shines on both guitar and vocal. Very nice!
Spirit Passing By has a serious strut and is heavily driven by Brignac on drums. Novelli's guitar attack on this track is raw and carefree...I like it!
Woman In My Dreams is a smooth pop track with a jazz structure. Backing vocals by Bob Henderson and Elaine Foster as well as a voracious guitar lead from Novelli makes this track stand out.
Story In Your Mind is a smooth ballad with a nice harmonic guitar solo backed by McKendree on organ. Bob Henderson steps up with some nice sax work as well. A sure radio track. Shreveport Stomp, a boogie instrumental, has that Louisiana country instrumental flavor with slick guitar riffs and McKendree reinforcing on piano.
Thinkin' or Drinkin' really gets down into the Louisiana mud with R&B style funk. Naquin adds
tasteful accordion harmony on Novelli's lead vocals and Henderson and Foster on backing vocal. Henderson throws down a hot sax solo as well. Rounding out the mix is Novelli's stylistic guitar solo.
Another of my favorite tracks on the release is I-10 Boogie with a real Elmore James style guitar riff over a boogie beat. Novelli really shines on guitar on this track taking it for a hard ride. A break into a more Cha Cha feel gives Chubby Carrier the opportunity to hit his triple row accordion andthen into a New Orleans style piano groove for McKendree on keys, then into a Latin feel for guitar. Rolling back into a Texas blues/boogie this track is hot!
Wrapping the release is Zydeco Ride, again with Chubby Carrier leading the way on accordion.

"I don't know how any promotional agency could have helped me in Norway as much as the musicians here," states New Orleans guitar great, Peter Novelli, about his recent welcome as he toured for the first time in Norway. "They hooked me right up and are already booking me for major blues festivals and top venues for 2015. What a fantastic country for blues & roots music."
Novelli's insight is well earned. He's seen much of the world since his eponymous Peter Novelli was released in 2010. Each year, Novelli intentionally expands his tour radius to include big chunks of the US- the midwest, The Finger Lakes NY region- all the while headlining venues and events in New Orleans, where he is based. The Summer 2014 Louisiana Roots and Blues Tour with his New Orleans rhythm section kicked off in June and wound up in September at Abilene in Rochester NY.
But it's not just the US that intrigues and calls to Novelli. His music has been embraced by the Caribbean island country Dominican Republic where jazz, blues, and funk genres are gaining popularity with Dominicans as well as with the growing population of ex-pats.
And then there's Norway, where a month long tour forged a new audience for his music and a new respect among Norwegian musicians for Novelli's guitar prowess, vocals and songwriting. Novelli and Louisiana drummer Brian Brignac collaborated with Norwegian guitar guru Bent Patey and bassist Gunnar Engen.
During tour breaks, Novelli was ducking in and out of Brignac's Sound Shack in the small town of St. Amant to record his third record, St. Amant Sessions, with guest musicians like slide guitarist Sonny Landreth and his drummer Brian Brignac, the Grammy winning zydeco accordionist Chubby Carrier, keyboardist Kevin McKendree (Delbert McClinton), cajun accordionist Sammy Naquin and vocalist Elaine Foster (who's worked with Dr John and Alan Toussaint among others).
"St. Amant Sessions really reflects my growth as an artist, guitarist and songwriter," says Novelli. "My music really has been a journey. I'm inspired by New Orleans sounds as well as zydeco, cajun and Louisiana-Texas blues. I love playing, recording and touring the world. There's nothing better than standing on a stage in a foreign country and having an audience dig what you're doing."

During tour breaks, Novelli has been ducking in and out of Brignac's Sound Shack in the small town of St. Amant to record his third record, St. Amant Sessions, with guest musicians like the Grammy winning Chubby Carrier, Delbert McClinton's keyboardist, Kevin McKendree, slide guitarist Sonny Landreth and his drummer Brian Brignac, cajun accordionist Sammy Naquin and vocalist Lisa Foster (who's worked with Dr John and Alan Toussaint among others).
St. Amant Sessions will be released February 10, 2015.

PETER NOVELLI BAND LIVE
New Orleans guitarist Peter Novelli starts with the blues and ends with the blues. In between those indigo goal posts the man throws in zydeco and swamp boogie. He shreds thick and heavy, funky and mean. He’s like a cape-less guitar hero one minute, or a gently strumming Delta troubadour the next, and then he careens into live polyrhythmic jams. It’s red hot throughout. He has shared the stage and the studio with cats like Dr. John and Chris Thomas King (“O Brother Where Art Thou?”) to name a few. Genuine road-burnin’ blues.

Mar. 9 - CD REVIEW
this just in, another review on Novelli's debut CD
"Novelli’s guitar work recalls Louisiana’s native son Sonny Landreth.
If you are unable to make it to this year’s Mardi Gras or Jazz-Fest, pay it no mind.
This music will transport you there with the intoxicating effect of losing yourself in the French Quarter."

Peter Novelli and his New Orleans Band will be touring the northeast USA in July with his New Orleans Band. The band includes Darryl White, drums (Tab Benoit, Chris Thomas King, Dr. John, Cyril Neville and others); Suzy Leger, frottoir/percussion; and Sandy Maillho, veteran New Orleans bassist.
Novelli is releasing his debut CD, self titled and recorded in Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Produced by bassist David Hyde (Gatemouth Brown, Delbert McClinton) Novelli’s music includes compelling originals along with eclectic covers. Driven by his bluesy guitar and gravelly vocals, he weaves blues and rock with New Orleans funk and sometimes a twist of cajun-zydeco, all soaked in a Louisiana roots feel with a dancing beat.
Special guests include Dr. John, Augie Meyers (Texas Tornados, Sir Douglas Quintet), Paul Barrere on slide guitar (Little Feat, Bonnie Raitt), and Greg “Fingers” Taylor, harmonica (Jimmy Buffett ). Along with the late Gatemouth Brown’s rhythm section of Hyde on bass and David Peters on drums, some top New Orleans and Louisiana musicians joined the sessions.
Novelli started listening to Louisiana/New Orleans and Texas blues and R&B at a young age and years later found himself in Louisiana and New Orleans playing with some of the legends who influenced him. He worked frequently with zydeco and cajun bands during the past decade. Several years ago, his band opened for Buckwheat Zydeco and since then he has performed and shared stages with many icons of Louisiana and New Orleans music.
The CD is collecting critical acclaim from blues and guitar publications in USA and abroad, and radio play around the USA, in Europe, South America and Japan.
Early comments:
Soulful…lots of great feel and real music… (Novelli) really squeezes every ounce out of the "blue notes" …very tasteful…great guitar tones…really strong tones…well produced, not overly polished or stepped on… sounds like a bunch of very good musicians having fun…LOVE (the) guitar playing/ style/ grooves/ influences.
The CD includes a Tribute To Slim Harpo, two Baton Rouge blues standards (along with short interviews) with members of the late Slim Harpo’s original band (James Johnson and Rudy Richard on guitars), the late Raful Neal on harmonica and “Big John” Thomassie on drums. Slim Harpo is a blues legend who influenced Buddy Guy, The Rolling Stones and many other modern artists.
